IMMACULATA, Pa. – Marywood University spoiled “senior day” at Immaculata University as the visiting Pacers defeated the Mighty Macs, 18-10, in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse regular-season finale.
Immaculata ends the regular season 5-10 overall and 3-5 in the CSAC. Marywood improved to 12-3 overall, 7-1 in the league. Both squads have qualified for the CSAC Tournament.
After
Rebecca Whiteman scored the first goal of the contest to put the Mighty Macs on top at the 22:27 mark, the Pacers scored seven straight goals. It would be a lead that Marywood would not relinquish. Immaculata chipped away with back-to-back tallies by
Kacie O'Neill to make it a 7-3 game with 9:36 remaining in the first half.
However, the Pacers scored six of the final seven goals during the last seven minutes of the opening half, leading 13-4 at the break.
Immaculata outscored Marywood, 6-5, during the second half. Immaculata put up five goals midway through the second half, cutting Marywood's advantage to 15-9. The Pacers answered with three more tallies to silence the Mighty Macs' comeback.
O'Neill led the Mighty Macs with four goals while Whiteman also registered four points on two goals and two assists.
Katie Cook recorded two goals, and
Emily Hallett and
Jessica Gaburo each scored one goal. Mighty Macs goalkeeper
Britt Worthington made 17 saves despite taking the loss.
Taylor McKeown scored a game-best seven goals for Marywood, and Diana D'Achille recorded four tallies. Sarah Caughy scored two goals and two assists while Kimberly Commisso registered three markers. Pacers' starting goalkeeper Megan Planz played 57 minutes making 11 saves and allowing nine goals.
Immaculata begins play in the CSAC Tournament on Saturday, April 30 in quarterfinal action.
