Centenary Defeats Women's Lacrosse, 17-11

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's lacrosse team had a 17-11 setback against visiting Centenary College on Tuesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference action. Despite the loss, the Mighty Macs clinched a spot in the CSAC Tournament for the second-straight season.

Immaculata slips to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in the CSAC while Centenary improves to 7-3, 5-1 CSAC. Immaculata clinched the No. 6 seed in the CSAC Tournament with losses by both Cedar Crest College and College of Notre Dame this afternoon.

Immaculata's Kacie O'Neill led the squad with five points during the contest on a hat trick and two assists. Katie Cook amassed four points on one goal and three assists. Emily Hallett, Alysia Remaley and Rebecca Whiteman each had two tallies apiece, and Lauren Bigos scored one goal.

The Mighty Macs and Cyclones went back-and-forth during the first 15 minutes of the opening half. Centenary would score and Immaculata would always come right back with a goal of its own to tie the score. The Mighty Macs even led, 3-2, after Remaley scored with 22:23 remaining in the first half.

However, when Centenary scored at the 16:22 mark to go up 4-3, Immaculata wasn't able to answer right away. The Cyclones ended up netting seven straight goals for a 10-3 lead with 4:07 left in the opening half. Whiteman and Bigos tallied goals during the final 3:07 of the half as the Mighty Macs trailed 11-5 at halftime.

Centenary scored the first four goals of the second half, increasing its lead to 15-5. The Cyclones led 17-6 midway through the second half. Determined not to give up, the Mighty Macs scored five consecutive goals during the final 12:52 of the contest, and didn't allow Centenary to score after the 14:39 mark.

The Cyclones' Hannah Ally led all scorers with six goals and three assists for nine points. Meredith Bruce and Allie Swartz each added two goals and one assist while Danielle Bay finished with a hat trick for Centenary.

Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington made eight saves while taking the loss. Centenary's Ako Nakabun recorded seven stops while earning the win in net.

Immaculata plays its final regular-season game next Tuesday, April 26, at 7 p.m. when it hosts Marywood at Draper Walsh Stadium. The night will mark “Senior Day” for the women's lacrosse program.
