Women's Lacrosse Downs Notre Dame, 14-6

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– A nine-goal run in the first half propelled the Immaculata University women's lacrosse team to a 14-6 victory against College of Notre Dame on a cool and rainy Wednesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.

With the win, the Mighty Macs improved to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The Gators slip to 2-10 overall, 1-4 in the league.

It was a total-team effort for the Mighty Macs as nine different players recorded at least one point. Katie Cook led Immaculata with three goals and one assist for four points. Kacie O'Neill also tallied a hat trick while Rebecca Whiteman and Kelly Kugler each accounted for three points on two goals and one assist. Lauren Bigos finished with two goals, and Emily Hallett assisted on two scores. Jessica Gaburo and Chelsey Murta each found the back of the net once, and Stephanie Tedeschi had one assist.

Notre Dame struck early, scoring two goals within the first 1:29 of the contest for the lead. Immaculata got things going when O'Neill scored at the 27:44 mark of the first half to start the 9-0 run for the Mighty Macs. Immaculata had five goals within the first 10 minutes of the run to extend its advantage to 5-2 with 18:24 left in the first half.

Following a span of three IU goals all within 1:07, Immaculata added its final tally of the opening half with 4:01 remaining before halftime for a 9-2 lead. Notre Dame trimmed one goal off the Immaculata lead with 41 seconds remaining in the half, and the Mighty Macs led 9-3 at the break.

Immaculata and Notre Dame each scored two goals within the first two minutes of the second half. The Mighty Macs went on to score three straight times, and the Gators' goal with 3:01 left in the contest proved too little.

Immaculata's defense was led by goalkeeper Britt Worthington's 11 saves to get the win. The Mighty Macs forced eight Gator turnovers, led by three caused turnovers by Anne Moulton. Immaculata also collected 27 ground balls, in which Whiteman had five, and Kugler and Moulton each had three.

Notre Dame was led by four goals and two assists from Allison Terry. Ashley Cumberland and Molly Murray each scored once. Gators' goalie Nicole Walters made 10 saves.

Immaculata heads to Cedar Crest on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest against the Falcons.
