Women's Lacrosse Gets 13-8 Win Against Rutgers-Camden

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– Immaculata University's women's lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the young 2011 season on Tuesday afternoon as it defeated Rutgers-Camden, 13-8, in non-conference action.

Kacie O'Neill tallied five goals and one assist for six points to lead the Mighty Macs offensively. Rebecca Whiteman netted three goals and two assists, and Lauren Bigos also scored three times. Kelly Kugler and Katie Cook both scored one goal apiece. Alysia Remaley had two assists, and Emily Hallett had one helper.

Whiteman started the scoring for Mighty Macs with a goal just 1:16 into the contest, but Rutgers-Camden answered back just over a minute later. Immaculata rattled off three consecutive tallies, including two from O'Neill to give the Mighty Macs a 4-1 cushion with 21 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Scarlet Raptors answered with 19:04 left in the opening stanza, but the Mighty Macs again scored three straight, making their lead 7-2 midway through the half.

Rutgers-Camden cut its deficit to 7-3 with 11:20 remaining, but O'Neill and Whiteman traded off assisted goals from each other to end the first half with Immaculata leading, 9-3.

Rutgers-Camden outscored Immaculata 5-4 in the second half. The Scarlet Raptors were able to string together back-to-back goals twice to cut the Mighty Macs' lead to five goals each time. However, Immaculata was able to answer the call when needed and stopped Rutgers-Camden from getting any closer than five and held them scoreless during the final 5:29 of the contest.

Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington picked up the win making 12 saves. Rutgers-Camden keeper Rachel Powell took the loss but stopped 18 Immaculata shots.

Amber Alexander and Samantha Gregg each scored two goals to lead the Scarlet Raptors.

Immaculata will be back in action on Thursday afternoon, March 10, traveling to Arcadia for a 4 p.m. start.
