IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's baseball team dropped a pair of games to Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs fell 3-0 in game one and came up short 9-8 in the second game.
With the loss, the Mighty Macs drop to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the CSAC. The visiting Griffins improve their mark to 4-7 overall and 2-0 within the conference.
The opener was scoreless through the first six innings until the Griffins broke through with a trio of runs in the top of the seventh inning.
The Macs were stymied by Gwynedd-Mercy starter Andrew Sinon, (1-2) whom pitched a complete-game shutout. He scattering just one hit and a walk in his outing. Immaculata starter
Bryan McHale pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs and striking out three in the loss.
The second game of the doubleheader saw an offensive outburst for both teams, as the squad combined for 17 runs and 16 hits.
Gwynedd-Mercy jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of a pair of Griffin sacrifice flies.

The Griffins struck again with another three-spot in the fourth inning courtesy a two-out double by Mike Albert that brought two runners across the plate, increasing the Griffins lead to 6-1.
The Mighty Macs would not go away quietly, however. Immaculata plated five runs in the fifth as the inning was capped off by a grand slam by
Matt Bolden to erase the deficit and evening the score at 6-6.
Immaculata began the inning loading the bases as
Rick Gehman singled back to the pitcher, News walked and
Joe DiGiaimo also walked.
Matt Hardy was then hit by a pitch to score Gehman for the first run of the inning. Following the first out of the half inning, Bolden stepped to the plate and delivered the game-tying grand slam that cleared the fence down the left field line.
The Griffins responded immediately with a three-run sixth, and Gwynedd-Mercy took a 9-6 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
Immaculata put together a rally in its half of the seventh inning, plating a pair of runs to bring the game to 9-8, but couldn't even the score. Joe Rawlngs had a RBI double to left field scoring DiGiaimo.
Matt Hardy scored the second run on Bolden's sac fly to right.
Griffin starter John Barrington (1-1) allowed six runs in five innings of work to pick up, and Luis Martinez pitched the final two innings to pick up his second save this season.

John Pedorenko, who allowed two unearned runs in two innings of work was tagged with the loss. Mighty Mac starter
Alex Kobylinski lasted 3.2 innings giving up five hits and one earned run.
Hardy and News each picked up a pair of hits and drove in a run each for the Mighty Macs on the afternoon. Bolden went 1-for-5 on the day with five RBI.
Immaculata looks to bounce back in their next game on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy to conclude the series. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Immaculata's game against Salisbury scheduled for Sundat afternoon, March 27, has been cancelled.
