IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University was defeated in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon by Bryn Mawr College, 11-9, at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Owls (4-2) scored eight goals during the final 30 minutes, including four tallies to begin the second half, to overcome a one-goal deficit, 4-3, at halftime.
Immaculata (1-6) never trailed during the first halftime as
Rebecca Whiteman put the Mighty Macs on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal at the 22:02 mark. Bryn Mawr's Gabby Marangell evened the score at 1-all less than two minutes later. However,
Lauren Bigos and
Emily Hallett scored just 4:39 apart to give Immaculata a 3-1 lead with 14:20 left in the first.
Bryn Mawr sandwiched goals around an Immaculata goal from
Kacie O'Neill assisted by Whiteman with 4:34 left, and the Mighty Macs led at the break, 4-3.
The Owls scored four consecutive goals to start the second half, including two goals apiece from Natalie Chrismer and Marangell, as Bryn Mawr went on top, 7-4, 22:17 into the second frame.
O'Neill ended the Owls' run with an unassisted goal with 19:25 remaining, but Bryn Mawr scored three straight to push its advantage to five (10-5).
Immaculata scored four of the last five goals, including three during the final 3:35 as it tried to come back. The Mighty Macs' goal by Whiteman with 2:44 left cut the margin to 11-8. But Immaculata couldn't muster another tally until 34 seconds remaining in the game as Hallett scored off a pass from Whiteman.
O'Neill finished the afternoon with three goals for the Mighty Macs. Whiteman registered four points on two goals and two assist while Hallett had two goals and one assist for three points.
Chelsey Murta assisted on Bigos' goal and O'Neill final tally. Bigos and
Kelly Kugler each recorded one goal.
Despite the loss, Immaculata goalkeeper
Britt Worthington made 17 saves. Bryn Mawr's goalie Miranda Gordon-Zigel was called upon to make 12 stops.
Marangell finished with five goals, and Kathleen Magner had four goals and one assist for the Owls.
Immaculata returns to league play on Saturday heading to Cabrini for a 1 p.m. draw against the Cavaliers.
