ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University dropped its Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse opener to Neumann University, 16-12, on Tuesday afternoon.
Kacie O'Neill scored four goals and
Rebecca Whiteman tallied three times to lead the Mighty Mac scorers.
Emily Hallett totaled one goal and two assists while
Kelly Kugler scored two goals.
Chelsey Murta and
Katie Cook each had single goals.
The Mighty Macs used a four-goal run over a 10-minute span to put the visitors ahead, 6-2, with 10:57 remaining in the opening half. Immaculata (1-5, 0-1 CSAC) held a 7-5 lead at halftime.
Murta scored just 57 seconds into the second frame to push Immaculata's edge to 8-5. Neumann (1-4, 1-0 CSAC) then scored eight consecutive goals, five from Alexandra Bohen and three from Erica Crabtree, to put the host Knights in the lead, 13-8.
Kugler and O'Neill scored back-to-back goals to get Immaculata within three (13-10) with just less than 10 minutes remaining. However, Neumann scored three more times and never relinquished the lead. Despite two more tallies from the Mighty Macs during the closing minutes of the contest, it wasn't enough to come from behind.
Bohen finished with 10 goals and one assist for Neumann, and Crabtree recorded four goals and one assist.
Immaculata goalkeeper
Britt Worthington made 16 saves in the loss, and Neumann's Sam Kotowski was forced to make 20 saves to earn the win.
Immaculata hosts Bryn Mawr College on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
