Women's Lacrosse Topped In Double Overtime By Misericordia

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– Immaculata University's women's lacrosse team was handed an 18-17 double overtime loss by Misericordia University on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Draper Walsh Stadium.

Misericordia's (2-2) Emily Foley scored 1:55 into the second overtime to lift the Cougars to the victory. Each squad scored one goal apiece in the first overtime to force the sudden victory period.

Immaculata's Kacie O'Neill led the Mighty Macs with eight goals, including her 100th career goal which came with 12:55 remaining in the first half. Rebecca Whiteman tallied five goals and two assists, and Lauren Bigos had three goals. Emily Hallett added one goal and one assist.

Misericordia scored the first two goals of the game before Immaculata answered with three straight goals of its own. The Cougars scored twice more for the 4-3 advantage midway through the first half when O'Neill tied the score at 4-all with her 100th goal.

The Mighty Macs and Cougars traded goals with each squad leading by one goal until Misericordia's Emily Foley tied the score for the fifth time at 6-6 with 9:43 left. Immaculata got three consecutive tallies from O'Neill, Bigos and Whiteman to put the Mighty Macs out in front, 9-6, with 6:26 remaining in the first stanza.

Immaculata (1-2) still held a three-goal margin at halftime, 11-8.

Whiteman scored the first goal of the second half for Immaculata to give the hosts their largest lead of the game, 12-8. However, Misericordia scored four straight goals to erase Immaculata's lead and tie the score at 12-all with 18:04 remaining in the second half.

The score was still knotted at 13-13 when Whiteman and back-to-back goals by O'Neill gave the Mighty Macs back a three-goal cushion with 5:57 left in regulation. Unfortunately, three goals by the Cougars during the final 5:30 of the game sent the contest into overtime. The Cougars scored their final tally of regulation with just 13 seconds remaining to send it into extra frames.

Both Immaculata and Misericordia scored one goal during the first overtime as Bigos put the Mighty Macs on top with a goal 1:43 into the first overtime period. Catie Viegas evened the score at 17-17 just over a minute later, and neither team found the back of the net during the final 3:12 of the first overtime.

Brittany Worthington made 12 saves in the overtime loss for Immaculata. Misericordia keeper Colleen Hunt had 10 saves for the win.

The Cougars were led by Krista Shenk's five goals and two assists while Emily Foley had five goals and one assist. Viegas finished with four goals, and Kate Pagnotta tallied three goals.
