IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University's women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to Neumann University, 68-65, on Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.
Immaculata (14-8, 9-4 CSAC) placed four players in double figures in the losing effort.
Chelsea McTigue led all scorers with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Rachel Denis and
Chrissy Esbensen chipped in 11 points apiece while
Leah Kuczynski finished with 10 points of her own.
At halftime, the Knights held a slight one-point edge after a see-saw half with no team leading by more than seven points. The second half started with teams exchanging buckets until the Knights went on a 16-4 run to pull to a 54-41 lead with 8:31 left to play. The Macs answered with a furious run of their own, and pulled within one, 60-59, at the 2:35 mark. However, Immaculata could not connect as the Knights held on for a slim road win.
Neumann (14-7, 11-1 CSAC) placed four players in double figures. Katie Young led the Knights with 17 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Bethany Humenik also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds of her own. Erica Marvel chipped in with 11 points and Sami Borcky rounded out the group with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Immaculata plays its final home game of the regular season on Saturday opposite Gwynedd-Mercy at 1 p.m. It will mark both Senior Day and Pink Zone for the Mighty Macs. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in show of their support for breast cancer awareness.
