Mighty Macs Claim 80-73 Win Against Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – Immaculata University women's basketball defeated host Franklin & Marshall College in the consolation game of the Terry Greene Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon, 80-73.
 
Immaculata (1-2) had three players in double digits in the scoring column led by Leah Kuczynski's 21 points. Kuczynski was 13 of 17 from the free throw line and finished with six rebounds. Kelly Brown chipped in 19 points for the Mighty Macs along with a team-leading nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Chrissy Esbensen was the third Immaculata player in double figures with 16 points, eight assists and six steals.

Kuczynski was also selected to the Terry Greene Memorial All-Tournament Team for her performance during the weekend.
 
The Mighty Macs controlled the contest from the opening tip as Kuczynski started her scoring just 10 seconds into the game. Immaculata started the game on a 6-0 run, and led by 10 (18-8) by the 13:32 mark as Kuczynski had nine of the Mighty Macs' points.
 
Franklin & Marshall (0-2) got the Immaculata lead into a single digit, 24-15, with 10:32 remaining in the stanza. However, the Mighty Macs responded quickly with a 14-4 spurt to push their lead to 18 (38-20), the largest of the first half, with 5:51 remaining. After the Diplomats 11-2 run to again cut the Mighty Macs' lead to nine, 40-31, with 1:50 to play in the opening half, Immaculata outscored Franklin & Marshall 6-1 during the final 1:18 for the 14-point halftime lead, 46-32.
 
Immaculata's largest lead of the game, 22 points, came with 14:08 (58-36) and again with 12:33 (60-38) left in the contest. The final time the Mighty Macs held that advantage, the Diplomats came back on a 18-2 run. Franklin & Marshall had trimmed Immaculata's edge to 62-56 with 7:44 remaining.
 
Jackie Deegler made a layup on Immaculata's next possession to put the Mighty Macs ahead by eight, 64-56, and Immaculata continued to answer the Diplomats to keep its lead at least by eight points until the final three minutes. Elizabeth Snyder had a layup with 2:48 left to cut the Diplomats' deficit to 72-65, and Allison Bauer hit a three-pointer with 2:38 to play to make the score 72-69 in favor of the Mighty Macs.
 
Kuczynski and Brown both went 2-for-2 at the line to push Immaculata's lead to 76-68. Franklin & Marshall made a last attempt with another Bauer three with 38 seconds remaining to again come within four, 77-73, but Brianna Duffin sealed the Immaculata win with a layup and Kuczynski added another free throw for the final margin.
 
Franklin & Marshall had five scorers in double figures. Bauer led the squad with 23 points, including five threes. Megan Pauley recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
 
Immaculata heads to Penn State Berks on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
