Gwynedd-Mercy Ends Immaculata's Season

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.
- Kacie O'Neill and Rebecca Whiteman each had four points but Gwynedd-Mercy's balanced offensive attack was too much, as the third-seed Griffins downed the sixth-seeded Mighty Macs, 18-8, in Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament women's lacrosse quarterfinal action on Saturday.

O'Neill and Whiteman each finished with three goals and one assist, and Lauren Bigos tallied the Mighty Macs' other two goals. Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington suffered the loss while making 11 saves.

The Griffins scored the first three goals, and four of the first five goals during the opening 10 minutes, to lead 4-1. O'Neill and Whiteman scored less than seven minutes apart to trim the Mighty Macs deficit to 5-3 with 10:52 remaining in the first half. However, Gwynedd-Mercy scored three goals in less than three minutes, and the Griffins led 8-3 at the break.

Five goals during the first 12 minutes of the second half by the Griffins put the game out of reach for the Mighty Macs, as Gwynedd-Mercy staked itself out to a 13-4 lead.

Gwynedd-Mercy tallied its final goal of the afternoon with 11:15 left in the game to lead 18-5. Immaculata scored three goals during the final 9:20 of the contest, including two off free-position shots, for the final 18-8 margin.

Colleen Dellostretto lead the Griffins with four goals. Kerri Boon and Bridget Gibson each also amassed four points. Gwynedd-Mercy goalie Trisha Timony started and played the first 47 minutes for the win. She made six saves.

Gwynedd-Mercy (8-8) advanced to the CSAC semifinals on Wednesday, May 5 where it will take on the second seed Centenary College.

Immaculata concludes the 2010 season with a 5-11 overall mark, after going 3-5 in the league.
