ASTON, Pa. - Immaculata University scored three goals during the final 8:13 of the game to edge Neumann University, 11-9, in the Mighty Macs' Colonial States Athletic Conference finale on Saturday afternoon.
Dante Tuscai found the back of the net off a feed from John Cacchio with 8:13 remaining in the contest, giving the Mighty Macs a one-goal lead, 9-8, and Tom Hartney scored two goals on Ben Tuscai assists during the final 5:31 to give Immaculata the offense it needed to win hold on for the win.
Immaculata improved to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the CSAC, clinching the final spot in the CSAC Tournament. Neumann falls to 2-10 overall, 1-4 in the conference.
The Mighty Macs were led by Cacchio's four goals and one assist, and B. Tuscai finished with one goal and five assists for six points. Brendan Dinneen and D. Tuscai each added two goals and two assists.
Immaculata goalkeeper Andrew Sim made 18 saves to get the win.
Neumann scored first with just under four minutes remaining in the first quarter, but Cacchio tied the game at 1-1 with 1:27 remaining in the first quarter.
The Mighty Macs took their first led four minutes into the second quarter as they capitalized on a man-up opportunity with a goal from Dinneen. The teams traded goals until Cacchio scored with just 2:42 to play in the first half, handing Immaculata the 4-3 lead at halftime.
Cacchio recorded his third goal of the game just three minutes into the second half giving the Mighty Macs a two-goal lead. However, the Knights had two tallies just over two minutes apart to knot the score at 5-all.
Each team had a two-goal run, leaving the score still tied (7-7) with 12:24 to play. Cacchio gave Immaculata the go-ahead tally 8:59 to play, but it took Neumann just 17 seconds to net the equalizer, and tie the game for the final time at 8-8.
Matt Toth paced Neumann with four goals while Justin Mailloux scored three goals and had one assist. Andrew Neubauer made 16 saves in the crease.
Immaculata plays its final regular-season contest on Wednesday night as it hosts Moravian at 7 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
