Keystone Proves Too Much For Baseball

LA PLUME, Pa. - Keystone College went deep five times to fuel the Giants to a 16-8 win over Immaculata University in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Friday afternoon.

Immaculata falls to 11-19 overall and 5-8 in the CSAC with the loss while Keystone improves to 18-6 overall, 11-2 CSAC. 

Matt Hardy finished 3-for-5 with three RBI to lead the Mighty Macs at the plate. Rick Gehman finished 2-for-5 with three runs scored as Immaculata tallied eight hits in the game.

Keystone struck early by plating three in the bottom of the first. 

Immaculata evened things at 3-3 in the top of the third as Hardy hit a single that scored two runs, and Patrick Boulware had a sac fly to right that score Gehman.

The Giants responded with four in the bottom of the frame, and had a two-run fourth to extend their lead to 9-3.

Immaculata plated two more runs in the fifth to trim its deficit to 9-5. Hardy hit a RBI double to left field that scored David News, who had walked. The Mighty Macs scored their second run of the inning as Gehman scored on a wild pitch.

The Mighty Macs scored three more runs in the seventh to make the score 13-8 heading into the bottom half of the seventh. Immaculata started the inning with its first three batters all registering hits. Chris Dickinson doubled to lead things off, and he scored as News followed him with a RBI single. Gehman then doubled to put runners at second and third. News later scored off a wild pitch, and Gehman was plated on Boulware's sacrifice fly. 

The Giants scored in every inning they came to the plate with the exception of the second and fifth innings, making the final margin 16-8.

Andrew Dietrich started and took the loss for the Mighty Macs. He pitched five innings, allowing 13 runs, 11 earned, on 13 hits. Andrew Ellis pitched three innings in relief. Ellis allowed three runs, only two earned, on four hits. He walked one and struck out two.

Keystone's Yazy Arbello scored three times and drove in two as part of a three hit day, including two home runs. Ryan Smyth, Gabe Torres and Ray Jackson added Keystone's other home runs

Keystone starter Sean Brewer picked up the win, allowing three runs on two hits while striking out six in four innings of work. The Giants used four other pitchers during the final five innings.

Immaculata and Keystone continue the weekend series tomorrow with a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
