Baseball Earns Split With Arcadia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
– Immaculata University bounced back in game two to earn a split against Arcadia University on Saturday in a non-conference baseball doubleheader. The Knights won the opener, 8-3, and the Mighty Macs took game two, 8-2.

Immaculata now stands at 5-10 overall while Arcadia slips to 3-13.

In the nightcap, Immaculata scored one run in the first when Brandon Seibert's double brought Matt Hardy around to score.

The Mighty Macs then scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to lead 6-0. Immaculata's three runs in the fifth off came of sacrifices. Seibert laid down a sac bunt that scored both Rick Gehman and Patrick Boulware. David News followed with a sac fly that Hardy was able to score on.

Hardy and Seibert both had sac flies that produced the Mighty Macs two runs in the top of the sixth.
The Knights broke up the shutout in the bottom half of the sixth with two runs without garnering a hit. Andrew Ellis came on to pitch for Immaculata starter Kevin Leitzel with the bases loaded, struck out the Knights' centerfielder to end any threat.

Immaculata added two more runs in the seventh for insurance. Boulware hit a sac fly to right field that scored Chris Dickinson, and Hardy was credited with a RBI when his ball scored Kris Hazlett.

Boulware led the squad with two hits while Seibert drove in a team-high four RBI.

Leitzel started and went 5.2 innings for the Mighty Macs to pick up the win. He allowed two runs on just one hit while striking out six and walking eight. Ellis pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless ball and allowed just one hit.

Rich Schlamowitz took the loss on the mound for Arcadia after lasting 4.2 innings giving up three earned runs and four hits.

In the opener, the Mighty Macs scored in the top of the first as Hardy had a two-out single and stole second. Seibert then hit a RBI single that brought Hardy around to score.

The Knights, however, would answer in the bottom half of the inning with two runs. Arcadia would add one more in the second and four runs in the third to lead 7-2.

Immaculata scored one run in the top of the third when Hardy singled home David News, cutting the margin to 3-2 at the time.

Each team scored one run in their half of the fifth inning to account for all the runs of game one. Hardy had his second RBI of the opener as his single plated Gehman, who had reached on a single.

Hardy finished game one 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.

Both starting pitchers had complete games. Aaron Dietrich lasted six innings, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits. He struck out five and walked three. Zac Spece went the distance for Arcadia to pick up the win, surrendering two earned runs, while scattering six hits and striking out three.

Immaculata returns to the field on Wednesday when it travels to Penn State Abington at 3 p.m
