IMMACULATA, Pa. – Kacie O'Neill tallied a hat trick but it was Swarthmore College that pulled away with a 17-6 victory against Immaculata University on Tuesday evening in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Draper Walsh Stadium.
O'Neill and Rebecca Whiteman each finished the contest with three points. Whiteman added two goals and one assist. Lauren Bigos also tallied for the Mighty Macs (1-6).
After Swarthmore scored just 17 seconds into the game, Bigos tied the score at 1-all at the 18:26 mark when she found the back of the net. However, the Garnet scored six straight goals before the Mighty Macs could answer with an O'Neill goal 9:19 before halftime. Swarthmore eventually took a 9-2 advantage into the break.
The Garnet (4-1) scored six straight tallies coming out of the intermission to take control of the game. Immaculata scored three consecutive goals during an eight-minute same mid-way though the second half, putting its deficit at 15-5. Whiteman scored the Mighty Macs' final goal with 5:40 remaining in the contest.
Swarthmore was paced by Annelise Mowry's six points on four goals and two assists, while Amy Vachal also notched four goals. Allison Grein started and played the first 50 minutes in goal for the Garnet, making seven stops and allowing five goals to be credited with the win.
Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington made 15 stops while taking the loss.
Immaculata travels to Marywood on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. CSAC contest against the Pacers.
