READING, Pa. – The Immaculata University men's lacrosse team ran out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter, and went on to a convincing 10-3 win at Alvernia University on Saturday afternoon in a non-league contest.
Immaculata improves to 4-2 overall while Alvernia is now 3-3.
Dante Tuscai led seven different Immaculata goal scorers with his hat trick and added two assists for five points. Tom Hartney was the only other multi-goal scorer for the Mighty Macs with two tallies.
John Cacchio, Joe Keller, Brennan Dinneen, Mike Boyd and Ben Tuscai all posted solo goals, and Cacchio, Keller, Boyd and B. Tuscai all recorded one assist to finish the afternoon with two points. Immaculata goalkeeper Andrew Sim recorded just his second career assist during the game.
The Mighty Macs held a commanding 37-16 advantage on shots, and were successful on 23 of 28 clears. Alvernia edged Immaculata in both ground balls (39-31) and face-offs (10-7).
Sim started in goal and played 57 minutes for Immaculata to earn the win. He allowed three goals while making five saves. Max Bonhage played the final three minutes with one stop.
Immaculata scored the first three goals of the game before Alvernia netted a goal 2:35 left in the first quarter. However, the Mighty Macs scored three times in just over a minute, and led 6-1 after the first.
The Crusaders scored the only goal of the second quarter with 8:54 play, and the Mighty Macs led 6-2 at the break.
Immaculata deposited two more in the back of the net in the third stanza to go ahead, 8-2, with 3:40 remaining. Alvernia scored its final goal of the game with 2:52 to play in the third.
The Mighty Macs added two more goals late in the fourth to secure the 10-3 win.
Alvernia goalkeeper Kevin Shupp completed the game making 14 saves. Tom Casper tallied one goal and one assist to lead the Crusaders with two points. Jake Buzby and Jon Lozoskie also scored for Alvernia.
Immaculata returns home for a 7 p.m. contest against Chestnut Hill on Wednesday night.
