FLEMINGTON, N.J. – Immaculata University's baseball team fell in its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener to Centenary College, 11-3, at Diamond Nation on Friday afternoon.
Matt Hardy was 3-for-5 and
Patrick Boulware had a pair of RBI to lead Immaculata (1-6, 0-1 CSAC). Michael Fasano went 3-for-5 and had four RBI to pace Centenary (5-8, 1-0).
Centenary scored single runs in each of the first three innings to lead 3-1. Immaculata tallied its run in the bottom of the first as Boulware hit a RBI double to left center that scored Hardy, who had reached on a single to right center.
The Cyclones opened up the game with a four-run third and a three-run fourth inning. Centenary also added one run in the sixth to extend its lead to 11-1.
The Mighty Macs answered with two runs in their half of the sixth. The first three batters of the inning walked, and Boulware had a RBI fielder's choice that scored
David News, and
Andrew Dietrich hit a RBI single to center field that plated
Rick Gehman.
Kevin Leitzel started and went 4.2 innings for Immaculata. He allowed 10 runs on 15 hits and struck out six. Ernell Harley came in for Leitzel and pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits.
Andrew Ellis and
Andrew McCoy finished the game for the Mighty Macs on the mound. Ellis went two innings allowing only one hit, and McCoy pitched the ninth, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
Mark Delannoy earned the win on the mound for Centenary after lasting 5.1 innings. He allowed all three Immaculata runs on five hits.
Immaculata continues its series with Centenary tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader at TD Bank Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
