Women's Lacrosse Edges Bryn Mawr, 10-9

IMMACULATA, Pa.
- The Immaculata University women's lacrosse team edged out Bryn Mawr College, 10-9, on Thursday evening to win its first game this season in a non-league contest against the Owls.

Kacie O'Neill recorded five goals, including the game-winner with 7:13 left in the contest, to lift the Mighty Macs (1-4) to victory. Rebecca Whiteman also recorded a hat trick and added one assist to finish with four points. Stephanie Tedeschi and Lindsey O'Connor also both tallied for the Mighty Macs, marking the first career goal for each.

Immaculata ran off three goals during the first 10 minutes of the game as O'Neill sandwiched her tallies around Tedeschi's goal.

Bryn Mawr (0-3) got on the scoreboard with 14:21 left in the first half as Gabby Marangell scored the first of her five goals of the game. The Owls' score began a string of six goals during the final 14-plus minutes in the opening half that saw the team squads trade goals.

Immaculata led 6-3 at the break, but Bryn Mawr cut the margin to 6-4 less than three minutes into the second as Miranda Gordon-Zigel scored on a free-position shot.

Whiteman responded for the Mighty Macs with her second goal at the 24-minute mark to give Immaculata back its three-goal cushion.

The Owls scored three goals in just over two minutes, led by two strikes from Marangell, to knot the score at 7-all.

Immaculata pulled back out ahead with 18:22 to play as O'Neill scored on a free-position shot, and Whiteman finished out her hat trick with 12:25 left also on a free-position goal.

Bryn Mawr would not go without a fight as it made the score 9-8 on Mae Carlson's goal with 10:56 remaining, and even after the Mighty Macs pushed the difference back to two goals (10-8), Marangell have the Owls hope with her tally 4:56 before the final whistle.

Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington made 18 saves to preserve the win. Bryn Mawr keeper Kate Flaming made nine saves in the loss.

Immaculata hosts Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday at Draper Walsh Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
