IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University used a four-goal third quarter to propel itself to an 8-6 non-league victory against DeSales University on Wednesday night in men's lacrosse action at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Immaculata improves to 3-2 overall this season while DeSales slips to a 1-3 mark.
John Cacchio finished the contest with three goals while
Tom Hartney and
Joe Keller also registered three points for Immaculata. Hartney had his on two goals and one assist, and Keller netted one goal and two assists.
Trailing 4-3 at halftime, the Mighty Macs came out of the locker room recording four consecutive tallies to take a 7-4 lead. Hartney, Cacchio,
Dante Tuscai and Keller all netted goals for Immaculata in the spurt, and
Ben Tuscai assisted on both Cacchio and D. Tuscai's goals and Hartney had the feed to Keller.
DeSales scored with 23 seconds remaining in the third to end the Bulldogs drought and make their deficit 7-5 heading into the final quarter of play.
After almost 10 minutes of scoreless play, D. Tuscai found the back of the net for his second goal of the game to give the Mighty Macs back a three-goal advantage.
DeSales' Kevin Walker tallied with 2:26 to play, but that would end the scoring for both squads.
Immaculata had opened the contest with a goal from Cacchio just 2:49 into the contest, but DeSales scored three straight goals, two in the first and one in the second to hand the Bulldogs a 3-1 edge.
Hartney brought the Mighty Macs within one goal as he scored with 2:05 to play before the break and Cacchio evened things at 3-all as he fired one past DeSales' goalkeeper just 32 later. However, Matthew Kruszewski slipped one past Immaculata keeper Drew Sim eight seconds left in the quarter to hold the edge at half.
Sim played all 60 minutes in the crease for the Mighty Macs making 22 saves for his third win of the season. Jacob Nyenhuis played a full 60 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs and made 10 stops.
Immaculata heads back on the road this Saturday as it travels to Alvernia for a 1 p.m. face-off against the Crusaders.
