Women's Lacrosse Drops Opener At Widener

CHESTER, Pa. - The Immaculata University women's lacrosse team opened the 2010 season on Saturday afternoon falling to host Widener University, 17-1, at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Kacie O'Neill and Becca Whiteman each scored for the Mighty Macs (0-1). Britt Worthington made 14 saves in goal, and Alysia Remaley picked up a team-best four ground balls.

Widener jumped out to a 6-0 lead during the first seven minutes, led by three goals each from Jackie Elliott and Rachel Porter, and the Pride scored the game's first nine goals.

O'Neill got Immaculata on the board 5:43 before the break, and Whiteman followed with her tally just 1:36 later, putting the Mighty Macs down, 9-2.

Widener scored with 1:13 left in the half, and the Pride led at halftime 10-2.

Widener added seven more goals all during the first 16 minutes of the second half, and the two teams were scoreless for the rest of the game.

Elliott led Widener with six goals and one assist, while Porter added four goals and one assist. Julia Costello finished with three goals and two assists. Pride starting goalkeeper Linda Salcedo recorded the win after stopping two shots during the first half, and Shelley O'Neill made four saves during the second half.

Widener held a 34-15 advantage in shots for the contest.

Immaculata will be back in action on March 10 as the Mighty Macs travel to Rutgers-Camden at 4 p.m.
