ROSEMONT, Pa. – Immaculata was led by a pair of scorers in double figures as the women's basketball team brought home a 74-60 road victory against Rosemont on Monday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference action for the Mighty Macs fourth straight win.
The Mighty Macs (14-8, 9-5 CSAC) were led by
Bridget Welz' double-double of 24 points and 16 rebounds. Welz was 7 of 13 from the field with two three-pointers and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
Chrissy Esbensen finished with 19 points after also being an unblemished 5 of 5 at the foul line. Welz and Esbensen each had four assists, and six and four steals, respectively.
The contest was knotted at 18-all midway through the first half when Immaculata used a 26-8 spurt over an eight-minute span to take a commanding 44-26 advantage with 1:43 left before the break. Welz fueled the run with 12 of her 24 points and Esbensen added six.
Immaculata held a 46-28 lead at halftime after shooting 18 of 39 (.462) from the field compared to Rosemont's 30 percent (11-36).
Immaculata pushed its lead to 19 just three minutes into the second stanza, 55-33, but Rosemont held the Mighty Macs scoreless for over four minutes while the Ravens scored eight straight points to cut the margin to 11 (52-41).
The Mighty Macs rebuilt their lead back to 19 at the 9:27 mark, 62-43, and the Ravens got no closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Chelsea McTigue added seven points and five rebounds,
Leah Kuczynski totaled five points and six rebounds, and
Kelly Brown had six points and four assists for Immaculata.
Rosemont had three players reach double figures, led by Karen Boyle's 17 points. Adriann Demchenko collected a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds, and Kate Clarkson finished with 11 points.
Immaculata will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 18, traveling to Neumann at 6 p.m.
