DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Immaculata University placed two players in double figures as the Mighty Macs' women's basketball team was defeated on the road by Delaware Valley College, 79-63, in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday night.
The Mighty Macs fall to 5-3 on the season, while the Aggies improved to 4-4 overall with the victory.
Chelsea McTigue led the Mighty Macs with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Chrissy Esbensen finished with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists.
Leah Kuczynski finished a point shy of a double-double totaling nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Bridget Welz chipped in with nine points, six rebounds and dished out a team-best seven assists.
All five of the Delaware Valley's starters finished with double digits in the points column. Emily Soper finished with a double-double leading the way with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jackie Shunkwiler also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mighty Macs played the Aggies tight during the first 12 minutes of the contest as the lead see-sawed back and forth and was tied five times, However, eight straight points by Delaware Valley in just over two minutes pushed the Aggies lead to 10 (32-22) with 4:51 to play before halftime. Delaware Valley took a 14-point lead into the break, 44-30.
Delaware Valley maintained a double-digit advantage until the 11:42 mark of the second half as free throws by
Marisa Kinsey put Immaculata down by nine (57-48). Kinsey then hit a jumper, and the Mighty Macs capitalized on an Aggie turnover as Esbensen scored to trim the margin to 57-52 with 10:36 to play.
Immaculata got within four points three times the last with 4:17 remaining (67-63), but Delaware Valley held the Mighty Macs at bay the rest of the way.
Immaculata returns home to battle California Institute of Technology on December 19 at 1 p.m.
