Field Hockey Advances With 2-0 Shutout

Box Score

ASTON, Pa.
– The fifth-seed Immaculata University field hockey team advanced to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals with a 2-0 shutout win against fourth- seeded Neumann University on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

The third time is the charm for the Mighty Macs, who will be making their first appearance in the CSAC semifinals. Immaculata (6-13) had made the tournament the last two seasons, falling in the quarterfinals each time.

Immaculata meets top-seeded Cabrini College on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 3:30 p.m. The Cavaliers finished the regular season with a 10-7 overall and 7-1 CSAC mark. Immaculata is the only blemish on Cabrini's league record, as the Mighty Macs defeated the Cavaliers, 1-0, earlier in the season.

Katie Becker scored for the Mighty Macs 14:57 into the game on a feed from Mary Beth Plastek. Immaculata maintained its 1-0 lead at halftime.

Lauren Bigos gave the Mighty Macs a 2-0 cushion as she scored from Kristen Yoder in the 43rd minute, and Immaculata made the margin stand.

Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington made six saves for her fourth shutout of the season. Neumann (7-13) goalkeeper Lindsey Kasecamp had four stops.

Today's win avenges Immaculata's 3-2 overtime loss earlier in the season, and the Mighty Macs' 3-2 loss to the Knights in the quarterfinals of the 2009 CSAC Tournament.
