Immaculata Falls Short Against Elizabethtown, 72-67

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's basketball team fell to visiting Elizabethtown College, 72-67, in non-conference action Thursday night at Alumnae Hall.

Immaculata's (7-5) Chelsea McTigue had game-high honors with 28 points while Courtney Murphy added 13 points. Leah Kuczynski led the Mighty Macs on the glass with nine rebounds and McTigue brought down seven boards. Chrissy Esbensen and Bridget Welz each dished out six assists.

Elizabethtown (3-7) took its largest lead of the first half, 32-22, with 6:13 remaining as Kaity Snyder sunk a three-pointer. The Mighty Macs cut the lead to just three, 38-35, by halftime on a 13-6 run during the final 4:45, which included 11 points from Murphy.

Rachel Denis scored on a fast-break layup 47 seconds into the second stanza pulling the Mighty Macs within one, 38-37. However, the Blue Jays scored nine consecutive points to extend the lead back to double figures, 47-37 by the 17:16 mark. Elizabethtown still held a 10-point advantage with 13:35 left when Immaculata scored five straight points to trim its deficit to five, 56-51, with 10:30 remaining.

Elizabethtown would eventually take an 11-point lead, its largest of the contest, just inside the six-minute mark, and although Immaculata was able to cut the margin to five three times during the final 2:25, the Mighty Macs could come no closer.

Elizabethtown had four players in double figures led by Megan Strohman's 18 points. Courtney Kofeldt had 15 points, Snyder 14 and Stephanie Ellwood 12. Snyder also led the Blue Jays with nine rebounds and four assists.

Elizabethtown went 10-for-20 (.500) from three-point range for the contest while the Mighty Macs were just 4 of 13 (.308). The Blue Jays shot 43.3 (26-60) from the field compared to the Mighty Macs 27-for-66 (.409).

Immaculata returns to Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Monday as it travels to Philadelphia Biblical for a 6 p.m. tip against the Crimson Eagles.
