IMMACULATA, Pa. – Kelly Brown scored 15 points off the bench and Chelsea McTigue added 14, but it was not enough as visiting Neumann University defeated host Immaculata, 71-51, in a CSAC women's basketball game inside Alumnae Hall Monday evening.
Immaculata falls to 10-8 overall and 4-5 in the CSAC while Neumann improves to 13-4 overall and remains undefeated in conference play and atop the league standings at 9-0.
The Knights shot 41.7 percent from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half, building a 36-18 advantage by halftime.
Neumann's Bethany Humenik (9 points) was the spark off the bench that the Knights needed in the first half. She hit a pair of 3-pointers midway through the frame that fueled an 11-3 run, which put the visitors up, 23-9 with 6:15 to go before half.
Immaculata made its run at the 13-minute mark of the second half, going on a 13-1 run that saw the Mighty Macs' deficit dip from 21 to nine (50-41) with 8:41 left. Brown scored nine of her team-high 15 during that spurt.
However, Neumann answered with the next five points to push the lead back to 14 with six minutes left.
Brittany Whetts scored a game-high 23 points for Neumann while Sami Borcky netted 11 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to post a double-double. Nicole Feby added 10 points, and Katie Young pulled down 14 rebounds.
Immaculata returns home to Alumnae Hall on Saturday at 1 p.m. for another CSAC battle with Baptist Bible.
