Women's Basketball Claims 94-66 Win Against PSU Brandywine

IMMACULATA, Pa. Leah Kuczynski and Kelly Brown both registered double-doubles as Immaculata went on to a 94-66 win against visiting Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday night in a non-conference women's basketball tilt at Alumnae Hall.

Kuczynski recorded 25 points and 20 rebounds for her double, and had five blocks, while Brown finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Kuczynski's 20-20 performance was the first since December 2, 2006 when Dominique Murray poured in 31 points and 20 rebounds against Alvernia.

Immaculata (9-5) got out to an 8-0 lead before Penn State Brandywine (5-5) made its first shot on a Sarah DeBerardinis jumper at the 15:37 mark. Immaculata had increased its margin to double digits with 11:19 remaining in the opening stanza, and after outscoring PSU Brandywine 11-2 during the next 3:56, the Mighty Macs had a 20-point advantage, 30-10.

The Mighty Macs held their largest lead of the half with 1:08 to play as Kuczynski put in a layup to put Immaculata up, 47-20. However, the Lady Lions outscored the Mighty Macs 9-4 during the final minute of the opening stanza to make the halftime score 51-29.

Immaculata hovered around the 20-point advantage for most of the second half. PSU Brandywine trimmed its deficit to 17 with 3:34 left in the contest, but the Mighty Macs held the Lady Lions scoreless the rest of the way while they went on an 11-0 run.

Chrissy Esbensen finished with five points, eight rebounds, eight assists and eight steals. Rachel Denis added 12 points and six rebounds, and Courtney Murphy finished with 12 points as well.

Shari Harper led PSU Brandywine in both points and rebounds with a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds. DeBerardinis finished with 16 points and Bobbi Caprice had 15.

Immaculata shot 39.7 percent (31-78) from the field for the contest and was 30-for-50 (.600) from the foul line. PSU Brandywine finished 28.8 percent (19-66) from the field, but the Lady Lions were 13 of 36 (.361) during the second half with six of those from beyond the arc.

Immaculata returns to the league slate on Monday, Jan. 18, hosting Keystone at 6 p.m.
