IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's soccer team kicked off the 2009 campaign as Zena Tracey scored one goal and assisted on the other for a 2-0 defeat of DeSalesUniversity Tuesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Mighty Macs wasted little time getting on the board as Bridget Cunningham headed Tracey's corner kick past the Bulldogs keeper just 2:01 into the contest. It marked Cunningham's first collegiate goal for the freshman.
Immaculata led 1-0 at the break and added some insurance in the 64th minute as Tracey scored on a breakaway.
Immaculata outshot DeSales, 7-2, in the first half and ended the contest with a 14-4 advantage. The Bulldogs (0-1) held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Immaculata goalkeeper Jessica Gaburo made one save in 90 minutes of play behind a strong defensive effort for the Mighty Macs. DeSales' goalie Melissa Millili played a full 90 minutes in the loss recording six saves.
Immaculata returns to action Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. at Penn State Harrisburg.
