IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University's women's lacrosse team cruised to the 22-3 victory against Penn State Abington Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Mighty Macs used a balanced offensive attack as nine different players scored goals in the win.
Rebecca Whiteman paced Immaculata with six goals and one assist for seven points while
Kacie O'Neill tied for game-high points off five goals and two assists.
Emily Hallett added two goals and a team-high three assists for five points.
Claire Lichty,
Chelsey Murta and
Lauren Bigos all tallied two goals, and
Jenn Norris and
Anastasia Likanchuk registered one tally apiece. Kylie Bingham added one assist on a Bigos goal.
Immaculata jumped out 9-1 by the 11:04 mark of the first half as O'Neill netted four goals, and Hallett and Whiteman each recorded two scores. Kathlene Kim scored for Penn State Abington with 9:19 remaining in the opening half.
However, the Mighty Macs then continued to find the back of the cage, scoring six straight goals during the final 5:50 of the first stanza. Immaculata led 15-2 at the break.
Kailey Halliwell scored her second tally of the afternoon for the Nittany Lions just 5:03 into the second half making the Mighty Macs margin 15-3. Penn State Abington's sticks went quiet the rest of the way as Immaculata tacked on seven more goals for the 22-3 final.
Brittany Worthington started in goal for Immaculata, playing the first 44:56, making four saves and allowing all three Abington goals.
Alexis Erazo came on during the final 15:04 and made three stops.
Juliette Candelaria started between the pipes for the Nittany Lions and made 11 saves in the loss.
Immaculata outshot PSU Abington, 39-12, and won the battle of the draw, 19-8, while the two squads were even in ground balls at 14 each.
Immaculata will honor its seniors on Tuesday, April 21, at 6 p.m. when it takes on Bryn Mawr at Draper Walsh Stadium in the final game of the 2009 season.
