IMMACULATA, Pa. - A late six-goal surge by Centenary lifted the visiting Lady Cyclones past Immaculata, 16-11, on Tuesday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse match.
Immaculata scored five consecutive goals in a 15-minute span to knot the contest at 9-apiece. The Mighty Macs began their spurt as
Kacie O'Neill found the back of the game 1:10 before halftime to give Immaculata the momentum heading into the break.
The Mighty Macs began the second half with back-to-back goals by
Claire Lichty to bring the hosts within two, 9-7, with 21:37 left in the game.
Rebecca Whiteman slipped one past the Lady Cyclones keeper at the 18:47 mark, and Lichty scored on a free-position shot with 16 minutes remaining to tie the game at 9-9.
However, Centenary (5-2, 2-2 CSAC) responded with six straight goals, including two from Megan Mars, in a span of 7:44 to give the Lady Cyclones a 15-9 cushion with 5:58 remaining in the contest.
Despite goals from
Emily Hallett and Whiteman in the closing minutes, the Mighty Macs couldn't muster the comeback.
Lichty led the Mighty Macs with four goals and one assist for five points while Hallett amassed three points on two goals and one assist. Whiteman and O'Neill each tallied two goals, and
Claire Giambi added one.
Alysia Remaley collected eight ground balls and forced two caused turnovers for Immaculata.
Jenn Norris caused a team-high three Centenary turnovers and picked up four loose balls.
Michelle Garone paced Centenary with a game-high six goals. Mars finished with three goals, and Kiti Ovaskainen and Danielle Bay each tallied two goals and one assist.
Immaculata (0-8, 0-4 CSAC) goalie Brittany Worthington made 10 stops while Centenary's Leslie Pritchard made seven saves in the win.
Immaculata hosts Marywood this Saturday, April 4 at Draper Walsh Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
