GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Gwynedd-Mercy scored 13 second-half goals to defeat visiting Immaculata, 18-13, in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday.
Immaculata (0-4, 0-1 CSAC) led 8-5 at halftime. The Mighty Macs struck first as Rebecca Whiteman scored unassisted just 56 seconds into the game. Gwynedd-Mercy's Amanda Kirby tied the score at 1-all with 26:58 remaining in the first half.
The Mighty Macs held the advantage for the remainder of the opening half as Claire Lichty tallied three goals and assisted on another, and Kacie O'Neill added two goals all before the break.
The Griffins (4-2, 2-0 CSAC) came out in the second half scoring four straight goals to go ahead 9-8, and scored seven of the first nine goals during the first 10 minutes of the half to extend Gwynedd-Mercy's advantage to 12-10.
Gwynedd-Mercy rattled off three more goals to go ahead 15-10 at the 16-minute mark. Immaculata then strung together goals by Lichty and Whiteman, cutting the deficit to 15-12 with 10:34 to go in the game, but the Mighty Macs would get no closer.
Lichty finished with a team-high six points on five goals and one assist, and Whiteman collected four goals and one helper for five points. O'Neill tallied a hat trick and added one assist for four points.
Alysia Remaley was the Mighty Macs' other goal scorer. Diane Quintanilla finished with two assists while Emily Hallett recorded one.
Mighty Macs goalkeeper Brittany Worthington recorded 10 saves.
Colleen Dellostretto, Kerri Boon, Shannon Carabba and Victoria Geppert all had three goals apiece to lead Gwynedd-Mercy. Boon, Carabba and Kristie Pollock each added two assists. Griffins' goalie Trisha Timony made five saves.
Immaculata returns to action Monday in a non-league game against Arcadia at 4 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
