Catholic Narrowly Gets Past Immaculata, 8-7

IMMACULATA, Pa.
- Immaculata scored five goals in the fourth quarter but Catholic held the Mighty Macs at bay to preserve the 8-7 victory in men's lacrosse non-conference action Thursday night at Draper Walsh Stadium.

Joe Keller scored a hat trick, all in the final quarter, to lead the Immaculata (1-4) attack in its comeback attempt. Keller put the finishing touches on his hat trick off a feed from Dan Burgman with 1:15 remaining to pull the Mighty Macs to 8-6.

Tom Hartney then took a pass from Tim Flanigan and burried it in the net for his second goal of the night with 18 ticks left in regulation, putting Immmaculata behind by just one. However, Catholic won the ensuing face-off and held on for the win.

Hartney opened the scoring just 1:31 into the game, putting Immaculata in the lead for the only time during the game. John Cacchio tallied a goal with 1:31 remaining in the first quarter to knot the score  at 2-2.

Catholic (4-2) scored three goals in the second quarter, and the Cardinals led 5-2 at the break.

Catholic's Jimmy Bitonti scored the lone goal of the third quarter, and the Cardinals led 6-2 heading in the final 15 minutes.

Keller finished with a game-high three goals while Hartney had two. Cacchio registered two points on a goal and assist each. Dante Tuscai added one goal, and Flanigan had the one assist.

Andrew Sim totaled 15 saves in 60 minutes of action between the pipes. Sean McKenna earned the win in the crease for Catholic, having to make just five saves for the night.

Bitonti and Tyler Catalani led Catholic with three points each on two goals and one assist. Jimmy Sinnott also tallied two goals for the Cardinals.

Immaculata continues its homestand on Wednesday, March 25 when it hosts Moravian at 4 p.m.
