Women's Lacrosse Falls To Wilkes In Home Opener

IMMACULATA, Pa. –
The Immaculata University women's lacrosse team had its home opener spoiled by visiting Wilkes, 17-6, Tuesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium in non-conference action.

Immaculata (0-2) was led by a two-goal effort from Kacie O'Neill and Rebecca Whiteman while Claire Lichty and Lauren Bigos each tallied one goal apiece. O'Neill added an assist on Bigos' goal. 

Brittany Worthington started in goal for Immaculata making four saves and allowing 10 goals. Alexis Erazo played the second half, making two stops.

Wilkes jumped out to a 5-0 lead which included two goals and one assist from Brittney Hodnik, before Lichty put Immaculata on the board with 16:24 remaining in the opening half. O'Neill scored twice for the Mighty Macs during the remainder of the first half, but Wilkes led 10-3 at the break.

Wilkes scored just 38 seconds into the seconds half, and then Whiteman scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart for the Mighty Macs, making the score 11-5 with 23:12 left in the contest. Bigos scored her lone tally of the afternoon with just under 14 minutes remaining, but Wilkes rattled off the final five goals of the afternoon.

Melissa Polchinski poured in seven goals to lead Wilkes (2-0). In all, five different players scored for the Lady Colonels. Hodnik and Amelia Farnham each had three goals while Kat Edwards and Amanda Tilley added two a piece. Hodnik also had a game-high four assists.

Wilkes goalkeeper Allie Zukuft picked up the win playing the first half with five saves, while Cassie Cronin picked up five stops in the second half.

The Lady Colonels outshot the Mighty Macs 26-21, and Wilkes won 13 draw controls to Immaculata's 11. 

Immaculata will be back in action on March 19 at 7 p.m. at Swarthmore.
