GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Chelsea McTigue scored 24 points and Kelly Brown added 23 to lead Immaculata to a thrilling 92-90 overtime victory on the road over Gwynedd-Mercy in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action Monday night.
Immaculata (11-12, 7-7 CSAC) forced overtime scoring five points in the last seven seconds of regulation. Kasey Hicks nailed a three-pointer, and the Mighty Macs forced a Gwynedd-Mercy (17-7, 11-4) turnover when the Griffins were called for five seconds trying to inbound the ball. Kelly Brown then hit a jumper to knot the score at 77-all with a second remaining.
A layup by McTigue two minutes into the overtime period staked Immaculata to its largest lead of the overtime period at 84-81. However, Gwynedd-Mercy answered with a three-pointer to even things up.
The Griffins would take a three-point lead of their own at 87-84, however Kacie O'Neill's trey tie the contest for the 10th time. Hicks sank two foul shots with 52 seconds left, and Gwynedd-Mercy answered with a layup by Jackie Dooley and completed the three-point play by converting her foul shot.
Brown had the go-ahead layup with 22 seconds left, and McTigue added a foul shot with eight seconds remaining to lift the Mighty Macs to the upset victory.
Dominique Murray recorded a double-double for the Mighty Macs with 14 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Brown also chipped in eight rebounds while Kasey Hicks tallied 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Bridget Welz dished out six assists during the game.
Dooley finished with a double-double for Gwynedd-Mercy with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kristy Cramp registered a game-high 27 points and Kristy McGrath added 22 for the Griffins.
Immaculata will honor its four seniors on Thursday, Feb. 19, in the Mighty Macs' final home contest of the season at 6 p.m. against Cabrini.
