Immaculata Women Victorious Against Notre Dame On Pink Zone

IMMACULATA, Pa. The Immaculata women's basketball team hosted its annual WBCA Pink Zone game Saturday afternoon, defeating the College of Notre Dame, 77-66. Immaculata also honored former head coach and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member Cathy Rush in a ceremony prior to the contest.

The Mighty Macs (10-12, 6-7 Colonial States Athletic Conference) were led by a pair of double-doubles from Dominique Murray and Kelly Brown. Murray held game-high honors with 19 points and 15 rebounds while Brown dominated the glass with a contest-best 18 boards and added 17 points.

Immaculata led 6-4 2:28 into the contest when the Mighty Macs went on an 18-1 run, giving them their largest lead of the contest, 24-5, with 11:46 still to play in the first half.

The Gators (7-14, 4-10 CSAC) clawed their way back into the game on a 22-7 run of their own over 7:10 to put Notre Dame down by just four, 31-27, with 4:20 remaining before halftime. Immaculata retained its advantage and led 40-33 at the break.   

It took Immaculata just 1:25 to push its margin back to double digits, 45-35, where it would remain until the final three minutes when Notre Dame cut its deficit to seven, 71-64.

Chelsea McTigue also registered 15 points and six rebounds. Bridget Welz dished out six assists and tallied six points. Kasey Hicks added eight rebounds, five assists and four points, and Kacie O'Neill chipped in eight points.

The Gators were led by a double-double from Latoya Broady on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kendra Baldwin led Notre Dame with 14 points, and India Scott collected a team-high 12 rebounds.

Immaculata unveiled a banner to honor Rush's induction into the Hall of Fame along with her accomplishments while at the helm of the Mighty Macs from 1970-77.

Immaculata travels to Gwynedd-Mercy on Monday, Feb. 16 for 6 p.m. tilt with the Griffins.
