IMMACULATA, Pa. – Cheslea McTigue and Leah Kuczynski registered 19 and 16 points, respectively, leading host Immaculata to a 66-50 Colonial States Athletic Conference win against visiting Rosemont in the home opener for the Mighty Macs Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Hall.
McTigue and Kuczynski each finished one rebound shy of a double-double performance with a team-leading nine rebounds. The Mighty Macs' also got nine points from Bridget Welz to go along with eight rebounds and four assists.
Immaculata (4-2, 1-2 CSAC) pulled out to an 8-0 lead during the first four minutes before Rosemont got on the board at the 15:12 mark on a jumper from Adriann Demchenko. That basket started a 12-2 run for the Ravens, as they quickly took a 12-10 lead with 11:07 remaining in the half.
The Ravens (3-4, 0-2) led by as many as six, 20-14, with 7:32 to play in the first half, which capped a 20-6 spurt over just under eight minutes. However, the Mighty Macs finished the opening stanza with the hot hand as they outscored the Ravens 18-4 during the closing seven minutes, and Immaculata led 32-24 at halftime.
It took Immaculata less than two minutes into the second half to push its advantage to double figures, and the Mighty Macs led by 16 points, its largest margin of the contest, 50-34, with 12:08 remaining. The Ravens' trimmed the margin to six, 50-44, with 7:18 left. Rosemont could have closed the gap even further had it not gone 1-for-6 from the free throw line during that 4:50 stretch.
Rosemont was unable to trim its deficit any further as Immaculata rebuilt its lead to 16 during the closing three minutes of the contest.
Immaculata also had seven points, seven rebounds and three assists from Chrissy Esbensen. Courtney Murphy finished with seven points while Janine Mullin added six to the winning effort.
Rosemont was led 10 points apiece from Ashley Montecchio and Kate Clarkson. Demchenko came down with a contest-best 11 rebounds.
Immaculata returns to Alumnae Hall on Monday hosting Cedar Crest at 7 p.m.
