HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Immaculata University women's basketball team was unable to keep up with Centenary's hot hand in the second half, as the Lady Cyclones defeated the visiting Mighty Macs, 90-69, on Thursday night at Folker Family Gymnasium.
Immaculata (3-2, 0-2 CSAC) was led by
Leah Kuczynski's double-double effort of 17 points and 17 rebounds, while also having four blocks.
Bridget Welz was the Mighty Macs leading scorer with 20 points, and
Chelsea McTigue was the other Immaculata player in double figures with 11 points and six rebounds.
Rachel Denis finished with nine points and 13 boards.
Centenary (2-3, 1-0), which held just a four-point lead at halftime, 38-34, controlled the second stanza, outscoring Immaculata, 52-35, to earn the win.
The game see-sawed back and forth during the first seven minutes, as Immaculata led by as many as four points and trailed by no more than two to go along with three ties.
The scored was knotted at 10-all with 13:38 remaining in the opening half when the Mighty Macs used a 12-2 run over 5:32 to take a 22-12 advantage with 8:06 left in the period.
That 10-point margin proved to be the Mighty Macs' largest lead of the contest as the Lady Cyclones cut their deficit to two, 24-22, with 4:41 to play in the half. Centenary eventually took a four-point lead, its largest of the first half, with 1:07 remaining on a 12-6 spurt during 3:34.
After trailing 38-34 at halftime, Immaculata hung with Centenary during the first six minutes of the second half. However, the Lady Cyclones took an 11-point lead with 14:01 remaining in the contest, and held a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
Centenary's Kristen Camuso tied Welz for game-high honors with 20 points, while Marissa DiStasio registered a double-double with 15 points and 21 rebounds. They led a group of five Lady Cyclones' in double figures in the scoring column.
Immaculata opens its home schedule on Saturday hosting Rosemont at 1 p.m.
