IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University fell in the Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer championship game to Cabrini College, 2-0, Saturday night in the final event of the Fall Festival hosted by Immaculata.
The Cavaliers scored 7:10 into the contest and added another tally less than one minute later for the early 2-0 lead.
“We were flat in the beginning,” said Immaculata head coach Mike Barr. “I couldn't be more proud of the team. Everyone played great and the seniors were great. We had three players who were injured, but played through it, and showed real Immaculata heart on the field.”
Immaculata had several opportunities in the second half, but was unable to convert.
Cabrini finished the contest with a 17-10 advantage in shots, and the two squads were even with three corner kicks apiece.
Despite giving up two goals, Immaculata goalkeeper Stone Gahagan played extremely well in goal making eight saves. Cabrini keeper Bryan Johnson made three saves in his seventh shutout this season.
“The players have been a great group to coach all year, and I think we just over-achieved a little this season,” Barr said.
Immaculata finishes the season 10-7-4, while Cabrini improves to 16-3-2. The Cavaliers' now await for the NCAA Tournament selections to be released to see who they will meet in the first round.
