ASTON, Pa. -
Kameron Teel and
Mitchell Torh each tallied for Immaculata University to lift the Mighty Macs to a 2-1 victory over host Neumann University in the semifinals of the CSAC postseason tournament on a wind-swept, rainy Thursday evening.
With the win, Immaculata (10-6-4) advances to the conference championship game Saturday evening for the first time in school history and will play for an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships. The championship game is part of the CSAC Fall Festival being hosted by Immaculata University at Draper Walsh Stadium and Alumnae Hall.
The men's soccer championship game will take place at 6 p.m., pitting top-seed and regular-season champion Cabrini (15-3-2) against the third-seeded Mighty Macs. Cabrini advanced to the title game with an easy 5-0 win over Gwynedd-Mercy Thursday night.
Teel put the underdogs on top early with a marker six minutes into the tilt. That is the way things stood at halftime.
Neumann created its opportunities all night long, hitting the post on a number of occasions and nearly missing the net other times.
The Knights eventually tied the game midway through the second half. However, Immaculata fought back with the game-winner in the 80th minute. Torh lifted the ball over Neumann's keeper, Zac Ratliff, who came out off his line on the play, to send the Mighty Macs to the championship game.
Stone Gahagan was spectacular in goal for Immaculata, thwarting most of Neumann's opportunities, especially in the second half.
The CSAC Fall Festival gets under way at 10 a.m. with the conference women's cross country championship race followed by the men at 11 a.m. Field hockey's championship game will take place inside Draper Walsh Stadium at 12 p.m. followed by women's soccer at 3 p.m. and the men's final at 6 p.m. The CSAC women's volleyball title match is slated for a 5 p.m. start in Alumnae Hall.
