BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Junior Chelsea McTigue scored 21 points to lead three players in double figures as Immaculata downed Penn State-Abington, 93-42, in its opening-round game of the Bryn Mawr Tip-off Tournament.
Immaculata was 40 of 78 from the field as a team and shot 51.3 percent, while McTigue went 9-for-14 from the field. Freshman Erin McBride scored 14 points and freshman Leah Kuczynski added 11. McBride led all Mighty Mac players with nine rebounds and Kuczynski grabbed eight boards.
Immaculata (2-0) scored the first six points of the game before Penn State-Abington got on the board 5:18 into the contest, and the Mighty Macs outscored the Nittany Lions, 18-4, over the first 8:05. Immaculata took its largest lead of the first half, 46-15, with 2:01 remaining, and led 47-20 at the break.
The Mighty Macs continued to cruise in the second half as 13 players inked their names in the box score. Sophomores Bridget Welz and Courtney Murphy each added eight points in the win. Freshman Chrissy Esbensen handed out six assists to go along with her seven points, and freshman Holly Schell had five assists and six points. Freshman Jackie Deegler came off the bench and recorded eight points and seven rebounds.
Abington (0-1) was paced by Trisha Watson's 15 points and Samantha Frink added 10 points and a team-best six rebounds in the losing effort.
Immaculata meets Rosemont at 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon in the championship game of the Bryn Mawr Tip-off Tournament.
