Field Hockey Defeated By Neumann In Quarterfinals, 3-2

ASTON, Pa. - The sixth-seeded Immaculata University field hockey was unable to stage a comeback in its Colonial States Athletic Conference quarterfinal contest against host No. 3 seed Neumann University, as the Knights held on to win 3-2 Saturday afternoon.

Emily Hallett scored at the 13:43 mark as she received the pass from Maureen Town and found the back of the cage to give the Mighty Macs an early 1-0 lead.

Five minutes before halftime, Neumann' Lauren Hood tallied unassisted, and the contest was knotted at 1-all at halftime.

The Knights scored twice more just over two minutes apart in the 51st and 53rd minute, taking their first edge in the contest, 3-1. The combination of Town and Hallett went to work again in the 56th minute, as this time Hallett fed a pass into Town, who pushed the ball in for the score.

Immaculata had several key chances to score the equalizer, but Neumann was able to keep the ball out of the goal. Neumann outshot Immaculata, 22-15 during the contest. The Mighty Macs, however, had a 15-10 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.

Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington made seven saves, and Maggie Carpenter had 10 stops in the win for Neumann.

Neumann advantages to the CSAC Tournament semifinals, where it will face Gwynedd-Mercy.
