ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Immaculata University women's basketball team jumped back into Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Thursday night with a win over host Rosemont, 68-53.
The Mighty Macs improve to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the CSAC while the Ramblers slide to 3-6 overall, 0-1 in the league.
Immaculata turned in a nearly perfect effort from the foul line, going 19 of 21 (.905) during the contest. Kelly Brown was 7-for-7 while Kasey Hicks was 6-for-7. Courtney Dixon, Jessica Gaburo and Rachel Denis were all 2-for-2.
Hicks led the way for Immaculata, pouring in 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Dominique Murray added 12 points and eight rebounds while Brown chipped in 13 points and six boards.
Rosemont quickly jumped out to a 9-2 lead at the 17:29 mark as Karen Boyle knocked down two three-point baskets for the Ramblers. Immaculata cut the deficit to one, 15-14, by the 11:52 mark on a 12-6 run. Bridget Welz fueled the spurt with six points off two three pointers.
The Mighty Macs took their first lead with 8:55 remaining in the first half. The Ramblers responded with another bucket from behind the arc as Heather Daneker connected for her second three of the first stanza, and Rosemont retook the lead, 20-18. Hicks tied the contest at 20-all with 8:02 to play, and Immaculata used a 7-2 run over 3:28 to push its advantage to five.
Rosemont came within two points twice during the final four minutes of the first half, but Immaculata maintained its lead with a 31-27 advantage at halftime.
The Mighty Macs extended their margin to double figures just three minutes into the second half, and led 41-29 by the 16:37 mark, as Murray poured in the final six points of the opening run.
The Ramblers were able to cut the Mighty Macs' lead to six, 41-35, with 14:27 remaining in the contest, but Immaculata strung together a 16-3 run in just over four minutes to put the game out of reach for Rosemont by the 10:07 mark.
Immaculata led by as many as 23 (64-41) with 5:20 left in the contest before the Ramblers held the Mighty Macs without a basket from the field the rest of the way. Rosemont was able to cut the Immaculata advantage to 15 points to close out the scoring.
Courtney Murphy finished with nine points, all on three second-half three-pointers, and Welz ended up with eight points, six assists and six steals for Immaculata.
Vanessa Johnson registered a double-double for the Ramblers with a team-best 15 points and 10 rebounds. Daneker finished with 13 points and Boyle chipped in 11.
Immaculata will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 1 p.m. when it travels to Keystone.
