IMMACULATA, Pa. – Jasmine Harris-Kane scored Penn State Berks' final 19 points of the game, including an 8-for-9 effort from the free throw line during the final five minutes, to halt Immaculata's comeback attempt, 67-59, in non-conference women's basketball action at Alumnae Hall on Tuesday night.
Immaculata slips to 6-7 overall while Penn State Berks ups its record to 5-10.
Kasey Hicks registered a double-double for the Mighty Macs with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Kelly Brown added 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Bridget Welz finished with eight points and five assists while Dominique Murray chipped in four points, five rebounds, two blocked shots and five steals.
Rachel Denis sunk a three 1:07 into the contest giving Immaculata the 3-2 advantage. It proved the Mighty Macs only lead of the game after Courtney Bailey hit a jumper at the 16:35 mark to give Penn State Berks a 5-3 lead it would never relinquish.
Immaculata had cut the margin to two (48-46) midway through the second half as it used an 11-4 run over five minutes to crawl back into the contest. However, Harris-Kane took control of the game at that point.
The Lions' point guard made two foul shots with 9:45 remaining to begin her string of 19 straight points for the visitors. She went 13-for-15 from the charity stripe during the final 9:45 and added three baskets from the field.
Trailing 58-50, Welz hit a jumper and Brown nailed a three-pointer to trim the margin to 58-55 with 3:52 remaining. However, two Brown lay-ups would be all the Mighty Macs could muster down the stretch.
Harris-Kane led all scorers with 27 points, 23 in the second half, on 17 of 19 shooting from the foul line. She also added five assists and three steals. Bailey tallied a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Steph Binder added 12 points.
Immaculata returns to Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Thursday, traveling to Cabrini at 6 p.m.
