IMMACULATA, Pa. - Blake Cain's tally in the 88th minute of regulation propelled Immaculata to a 2-2 double overtime tie with visiting Widener on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium. It was the home-opener for the Mighty Macs.
Cain put teammate Alan Lorentz' cross past Pride goalie Marty Squicciarini at 87:20, and the two teams played to a stalemate the rest of the way.
Immaculata (0-2-1) got its first goal of the afternoon at the 81:40 mark as Dan Arteglier found the back of the cage on a pass from Alan Lorentz.
Widener's Doug Gabel scored the Pride's first goal in the 17th minute, off a save from Immaculata keeper Jimmy Casper. Less than a minute later, the Pride fired another one past Casper as Gareth Cooper took a from Brian James.
Widener (1-2-1) held a 17-12 overall advantage in shots, and an 11-2 advantange at the end of the first half. Squicciarini made five saves, and Casper (3) and Zach Oas (2), who came in at halftime, combined for five saves for Immaculata.
The tie broke a two-game losing streak for the Mighty Macs to begin the season, and marked the second straight overtime contest for Immaculata.
The Mighty Macs travel to Reading, Pa. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when they face Alvernia at 4 p.m.
