ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Immaculata men's lacrosse drop a 14-8 decision to Elizabethtown in non-conference action on Saturday, March 8.
Elizabethtown (2-1) jumped to an early 4-1 lead behind three goals from Ryan McCafferty, but Immaculata (0-2) closed the first quarter with three goals in the final two minutes to knot the game at 4-all.
Patrick Durso and Geoff Lorentz led the Mighty Macs with two goals apiece, while Jim Baranello and Brendan Dinneen each posted a goal and an assist. Alan Lorentz and Joe Keller also recorded a goal.
The Blue Jays notched two goals in the second quarter to give Elizabethtown a 6-4 lead at halftime. Baranello, making his first appearance of the spring, scored 1:24 into the third quarter, pulling the Mighty Macs within one, 6-5. Elizabethtown then ran off seven straight goals, including another three from McCafferty, to move ahead 13-5 with 8:05 remaining in the game.
Durso capitalized on the man-up opportunity for Immaculata with 6:18 left. After Elizabethtown scored again at the 3:34 mark of the final period, Dinneen and G. Lorentz tallied goals 18 seconds apart during the final two minutes.
McCafferty finished with seven goals for Elizabethtown, which tied the mark for the second-best single-game performance in program history.
Chris Schuch played the first 56 minutes in goal and earned the win for Elizabethtown, finishing with seven saves and allowing six goals.
Immaculata's Andrew Sim made 24 saves in the loss.
The Mighty Macs will be back in action on Wednesday, March 12, when they travel to DeSales at 3:30 p.m.
