IMMACULATA, Pa. – Karen Boyle nailed a jumper with 2.1 seconds left in regulation to break a 46-all tie and lift Rosemont College past Immaculata University, 48-46, Saturday afternoon.
Immaculata is now 6-18 overall and 4-11 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, while Rosemont improves to 8-14, 5-10 in the PAC.
It was a game of runs all afternoon, but the Ramblers 9-2 spurt during the final two and a half minutes lifted them to victory. Junior Courtney Dixon made a layup with 2:49 remaining in the game, putting the Mighty Macs ahead by five, 44-39. Boyle sunk a jumper with 2:32 on the clock, bringing Rosemont within three, and just 21 seconds later drained a three-pointer to knot the score at 44-all.
Junior Kasey Hicks was fouled and made both free throws, pulling the Mighty Macs back ahead, 46-44, with 1:59 to play. However, Adrianna Demchenko answered for the Ramblers as she hit a jumper and was fouled on the play, but could not convert the free throw, and the game was again in a deadlock with 1:37 remaining.
With 16 ticks remaining, Immaculata had a chance to pull ahead as senior Nina Cammarano put up a jumper, but it was blocked by Demchenko, and she grabbed the rebound. After a Mighty Mac timeout, the Ramblers drove to the opposite end and Boyle's jumper went in with 2.1 left.
Sophomore Shannon Kueny led the Mighty Macs with 11 points, while Dixon finished the game with 10 points. Hicks added nine points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals. Freshman Deanna Tropea registered a career-high 16 rebounds, and tallied four points and two blocks.
Rosemont was led by Demchenko's double-double with 10 points and 22 rebounds. Boyle held game-high honors with 15 points, including the crucial seven points during the final minutes of the contest.
Immaculata concludes the 2007-08 season on Thursday, Feb. 21, when it hosts Eastern University at 6 p.m. The Mighty Macs will celebrate Senior Night as they honor Nina Cammarano prior to their tilt against the Eagles.
