Immaculata Rolls To 72-52 Victory Against Marywood

IMMACULATA, Pa.
- The Immaculata women's basketball team picked up its first Colonial States Athletic Conference win of the young season as it rolled to a 72-52 victory against Marywood on Monday night at Alumnae Hall.

Immaculata improves to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the CSAC while Marywood slips to 3-3 overall, 0-2 in the league.

Immaculata placed three scorers in double figures led by Kelly Brown's 20 points. Kasey Hicks added 14 points while Dominique Murray chipped in 11.

Immaculata scored four quick points during the first two minutes of the contest and led 4-0 at the 17:55 mark. Marywood scored the next five points and held Immaculata scoreless for a little over the next four minutes allowing the Pacers to take a 5-4 lead with just under 15 minutes to play in the opening half.

Rachel Denis hit a three-pointer at the 13:28 mark to give the lead back to the Mighty Macs but the Pacers would lead much of the half. Marywood took its largest advantage just inside the 10-minutes mark, 14-9, as the Pacers sunk three consecutive three-pointers.

The Mighty Macs began to chip away at the Pacers lead as Brown had five straight points for Immaculata, and tied the contest at 14-all with 9:04 to play before intermission. The opening stanza would last be tied at 18-all just over six minutes before half when the Mighty Macs scored 10 unanswered points in 3:35 to take a 28-18 advantage.

Maggie Farrell scored four of the last six points of the first half for the Pacers, including a layup as time expired, cutting Immaculata's lead to 31-24 at the break.

The Mighty Macs dominated the second half, outscoring the Pacers 41-28 over the second period for the 20-point victory. The final margin was the largest of the contest. Marywood had narrowed the Immaculata lead to seven points twice throughout the stanza, the last time with 10:32 remaining in the contest.

Immaculata's offensive attack during the second half was led by Hicks' 12 points and Brown's 11, and the Mighty Macs shot an impressive 13 of 18 (.722) from the field.

Hicks led the Mighty Macs on the glass with eight rebounds to go along with her 14 points and four assists. Courtney Dixon finished with seven points, four rebounds and four assists, and Bridget Welz added nine points, three rebounds and four assists.

Marywood was paced by Stephanie Fusaro's 21 points and nine rebounds. Marielle Thorsen also reached double figures with 11 points and grabbed five boards.

As a team, Immaculata shot .571 (24-52) from the field for the game, and was 23-for-28 (.821) from the charity stripe. Marywood was just 17 of 60 (.283) from the field for the contest.

Immaculata will have almost a month off before its next contest on Jan. 5 when it travels to Wilkes at 7 p.m.
