IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata women's soccer recorded its second straight shutout victory with a 3-0 win against the College of Notre Dame on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Mighty Macs improved to 2-5-2 overall this season and 2-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. It was the Gators first conference loss of the season and they now sit at 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the CSAC.
Immaculata showed relentless pressure on offense throughout the entire match, holding a 35-2 advantage in shots and a 6-0 lead in corner kicks.
Three different players scored goals in the victory, including freshman Robin Soojian, who tallied her first collegiate goal in the 73rd minute of the contest to close the scoring.
Freshman Athena Campbell got things going for the Mighty Macs late in the first half as she found the back of the net to put Immaculata ahead, 1-0, in the 38th minute.
The Mighty Macs continued to attack in the second half and their hard work paid off when Stefanie Karmondy sent a long pass into the box that found teammate Zena Tracey in front of the goal line, putting IU in front, 2-0, at the 62:34 mark. Less than 10 minutes later, Soojian buried her shot and sealed the win.
In addition to its explosive offense, Immaculata received another tremendous effort from its defense. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Gaburo made one save in earn her second shutout in as many games. The midfield and backline of junior Shana Kehoe, sophomore Michelle Meyer and freshmen Erin Lewis, Janet Carney, Courtney Helm, Kimberly Steinke and Anne Marie Popgoshev limited the Gators to two shots by their play in the middle of the field to limit opportunities.
Notre Dame starting goalkeeper Amanda McKenney played the first 35:28 not allowing a goal and recording five saves before being lifted due to an injury. Ashleigh Johnson came on and played the rest of way making seven saves and allowing three IU tallies.
Immaculata returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when it hosts Baptist Bible at 1 p.m.
