Knights Slip Past Immaculata

Immaculata University women's basketball team fell to Neumann College 71-70 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Thursday, January 24, in Alumnae Hall. 

Junior Kasey Hicks netted a career-high 18 points, while junior Stephanie Stripe set a career best with 17 points off the bench.  Senior Nina Cammarano recorded 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals, while sophomore Erica Massenburg poured in 10 points and totaled four assists.

Trailing 57-49 with 7:55 remaining in the second half, the Mighty Macs (3-11, 1-5 PAC) used an 11-2 run, fueled by Massenburg's seven points, to post a 60-59 lead with 4:18 left.  Both teams traded baskets until the Knights (11-6, 6-2 PAC) held a 66-63 lead with 2:33 remaining.  But four straight points by Stripe gave Immaculata the lead right back at 67-66 with 1:51 to play.

Neumann answered with a three-point field goal by Krista DiRomualdo at 1:29 to take a 69-67 lead, but Stripe responded with a lay-up to knot the game at 69-69 with 1:13 left.  Caitlin Agnew broke the tie, 71-69, with a lay-up at 0:41, but Stripe made 1-2 from the foul line to pull the Mighty Macs within 71-70 with 0:09 remaining.  After a missed foul shot by the Knights, Cammarano's last-second shot hit the front the of the rim to preserve the victory for Neumann.

Dominique Thompson and DiRomualdo each registered a game-high 24 points, while Agnew added 15 points.

Immaculata returns to action on Saturday, January 26, when they host Misericordia University.  Tip-off is set for 1 pm.
