PHILADELPHIA, The Immaculata University women's flag football team (3-0, 2-0 AEC) defeated Saint Joseph's University, 18–7, on the road in non-conference play Thursday evening.
Immaculata trailed 7–6 at halftime but used a strong second-half defensive effort to secure the victory.
Sophomore
Eliana Szatkowski made a key play early in the second half, intercepting a Saint Joseph's pass deep in Immaculata territory to stop a drive that could have given the Hawks a two-score lead.
Freshman
Jaclyn Molinini scored twice for the Macs. She first found the end zone on an underneath pass from fellow freshman
Devan Cosgrove. Later, Molinini broke free on a counter play for a long touchdown run to give Immaculata the lead.
Sophomore
Tiara Lawler sealed the win in the fourth quarter, intercepting a pass from her outside linebacker position and returning it 25 yards for a touchdown.
The Immaculata defense once again stepped up in the second half, holding Saint Joseph's scoreless to secure the 18–7 win.
The Immaculata women's flag football team will be back in action on Tuesday, March 17, when they travel to Hackettstown, N.J., for an Atlantic East Conference tri-match with Centenary and Penn State Schuylkill.
