Softball Opens Busy Final Week with a Doubleheader at Delaware Valley on Tuesday

THE STORYLINE 

  • The Immaculata softball team begins a busy week with a doubleheader on Tuesday, at Delaware Valley University before returning home to face Penn State Brandywine in a doubleheader at the IU Softball Field on Wednesday. 

  • Immaculata (13-17, 5-3 AEC) enters the week after earning an AEC doubleheader split with Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday. 

  • Delaware Valley (16-13, 2-10 MAC Freedom) enters Tuesday after dropping both games of their conference doubleheader with Stevens on Saturday. 

  • Penn State Brandywine enters the week (25-7, 11-1 UEC) after sweeping a conference doubleheader at Penn State Abington on Saturday. 

SERIES HISTORY

  • Immaculata and Delaware Valley are meeting for the seventh time in their series that began in 2019. Immaculata is 4-2 all-time vs Delaware Valley 

  • Immaculata and Penn State Brandywine are meeting for the fifth time in their series that began in 2023. Immaculata is 0-4 all-time vs PSU Brandywine. 

LAST MEETING 

  • Immaculata defeated Delaware Valley 3-2 in their last meeting on April 24, 2024, at the IU Softball Field. Carlee Karcher delivered a two-run single, and Peyton McGowan followed with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Immaculata a 3-2 lead they would not surrender. 

  • Immaculata fell to Penn State Brandywine 2-0 in the last meeting on April 18, 2024, at the Maple Zone. Courtney Gable threw a complete game allowing only six hits and two runs for Immaculata.  

MIGHTY MAC NOTES 

  • Jess Oldham is batting .460 (46-100) with 24 runs scored, and conference leading 7 home runs and 46 RBIs. Oldham is just two RBIs shy of the program single season record of 48 RBIs, and three home runs shy of the program single season record of 10 home runs. Both records were sent in 2019 by Keani Hindle. 

  • Carlee Karcher is batting .410 (32-78) with eight doubles, three home runs, and 16 RBIs. 

  • Maddy Formica is batting .370 (33-87) with 23 runs scored and 13 RBIs. 

  • Kate Daly is batting .344 (21-61) with 15 runs scored and six RBIs.  

  • Bryele Anthony is batting .324 (33-102) with 31 runs scored, 14 RBIs, and 28 stolen bases. 

  • Steph Kelly is batting .320 (16-50) with 17 runs scored, two RBIs, and seven stolen bases. 

  • Allison Hill is batting .319 (22-69) with 13 RBIs. Hill has made several outstanding plays in the field at second base for Immaculata. 

  • Rylee Martin is batting .289, with two home runs, and 20 RBIs. She had five RBIs in the game one-win vs Gwynedd Mercy last Thursday.  

  • Catcher Emma Pinto has thrown out eight runners attempting to steal this season. Pinto has had a pair of two-hit games recently vs Centenary and Widener. 

  • Catcher Lily Hagan is .273 (12-44) with six runs scored, and five RBIs. Hagan has thrown out one runner attempting to steal.  

  • Riece Onorato is 8-3 with a 2.83 ERA and has 10 complete games. In 76.2 innings pitched she has 36 strikeouts.  

SCOUTING DELAWARE VALLEY 

  • Del Val has lost their last six games. 

  • Junior catcher Amelia Funston leads the Aggies batting .419 with 20 RBIs. 

  • Junior second baseman Angelian Bresnan is batting .386, with six home runs, and 30 RBIs. 

  • Sophomore pitcher Madison Karns is 11-7 with a 2.70 ERA in 16 starts. 

SCOUTING PENN STATE BRANDYWINE 

  • Penn State Brandywine has won their last seven games and plays a UEC doubleheader at home vs Saint Elizabeth on Tuesday. 

  • Freshman outfielder Emma McElroy leads the Nittany Lions batting .478 with two home runs, 25 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. 

  • Junior outfielder Kaylee Mushinski is batting .393 with two home runs and 30 RBIs. 

  • Junior infielder/outfielder Lexi Bussenger is batting .423 with 15 RBIs and 27 stolen bases. 

  • Junior pitcher April Lewandowski is 13-3 in 16 starts, with nine complete games, a 2.25 ERA and 69 strikeouts. 

  • Sophomore pitcher Isabella Hurta is 8-3, with one save in 16 appearances with 10 starts. She has a 3.11 ERA and has 50 strikeouts. 

ATLANTIC EAST CONFERENCE 

  • Immaculata is tied for first place in the AEC with Marywood and Marymount with all three teams currently 5-3. Gwynedd Mercy and Neumann are both 4-4. Centenary is the only team in the conference that is not in contention for a playoff spot at 1-7. 

  • The new playoff format for the AEC this season is the top four teams qualifying for a double elimination tournament to be held at the site of the number one seed on May 3rd and 4th. 

  • Immaculata will play Marywood in a doubleheader at Marywood on Saturday. Immaculata does hold the head-to-head tiebreaker on Marymount.  

UP NEXT 

  • Following Wednesday's doubleheader with PSU-Brandywine, Immaculata will travel to Marywood on Saturday, April 26th for the final doubleheader of the regular season at 12 p.m.
